All on a Morning Fine and Fair

All on a morning fine and fair
A bonny maid was walking by
A wonder saw she, sweet and rare
Upon the bank, she did espy

A lad all clad in greenest hue
Whose face was like the heav'ns clear
From whence, she neither cared nor knew
Nor, looking pon him, knew no fear

Fair maid, he says, I've sought thee out
For thy kind heart is much admir'd
And if you'll turn thee 'round about
I'll grant your every heart's desire

Says she, I've seen thy face before
Belike it were within a haze
But if my father I forsake
Then he'll be lonely all his days

Your father is a worthy man
A worthy daughter did he raise
And I'd not lief to leave him barren
Or lonely in his oldest days

But I've a crown of lillies fine
And silken shoes for your fair feet
If in a fortnight, when the moon doth shine
You will consent me here to meet

I'll give thee till that hour, no more
To find a way to say farewell
And know that I shall take all care
For your dear father to be kept well

I thank thee, sir, and here we'll meet
A merry meeting shall it be
If my poor father have it so
I will consent to go with thee

When she returned unto her home
Lo, what a sight she chanced to see
A-comin' o'er the water's foam
A boat fine blow'd upon the sea

And in the brow there stood a maid
Who offered to her father serve
Saying, I come to thee, sent by thy lord
Who'd give thee all thou dost diserve

So when a fortnight had passed by
To bank she wandered by moonlight
And there consent to be his bride
So ends my tale, when all is right
